Autism Speaks is an RSO (registered student organization) with the mission of providing education, awareness, and acceptance for Autism Spectrum Disorder. We work to fundraise for Autism Speaks and enhance the knowledge of the disorder on campus and in the community.
We will use money raised during #UMassGives to host events, in hopes of bringing the community together to learn more about the autism spectrum.
Our organization hosts an amazing 5k run / 3k walk in the spring. This year our event was on April 2nd in downtown Amherst. In addition to a great run and walk we had arts and crafts for the children, a petting zoo, DJ, photo booth, food, drinks, and more fun things. It was a great success, and it brought together many students and community members for a great cause. Next year we hope to make it bigger and better than ever.
We also volunteer with Whole Children about once a month at their dances, cafe nights, and more. Whole Children is a program that offers classes and day programs for children and adults with disabilities. We have done a spread the word to end autism campaign with Boltwood and Best Buddies this year. Next year we hope to put on a talent show on campus showcasing children and adults with disabilities in the community, giving them a chance to shine like the stars they are. Please donate and help our club continue to do even more great work.
