We define success at the UMass Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) by how well we achieve the school’s mission to optimize the public’s health and quality of life through innovative education, research, outreach, and practice using approaches that integrate the core areas of public health and health sciences.
By all measures, both qualitative and quantitative, we are realizing our mission. Our successes are fueled in great part through the efforts of dedicated faculty and remarkable students. That’s why it is more crucial than ever to support the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.
Your generosity creates IMPACT: Whether you contribute to the School, to any one of our departments, or directly to a student scholarship, your gift has the ability to make immediate change.
Thank you for supporting #UMassGives by making a gift to one of our following initiatives.
Western Mass Health Equity Summit: The School of Public Health and Health Sciences and a coalition of public health leaders from across Western Massachusetts have created an incredible network to identify and replace unjust and avoidable obstacles to good health with more equitable policies and practices. Support to the WMHES provides funds to make racial justice a named priority, create a voice for marginalized communities, and build on cross-sector collaborations to include planners, funders, public health, hospitals and health care, and community development corporations.
Scholarships, fellowships, and endowments: The evidence is strong that financial assistance programs—including fellowships —improve the diversity, recruitment and retention of public health students and professionals, according to the American Public Health Association. Your support assists the School of Public Health and Health Sciences in remaining true to its mission of improving public health through education, research and outreach, so the most deserving students can pursue their education here regardless of their ability to pay.
