Environmental Conservation and Extension are working together to help fish, wildlife, and habitats adapt to a changing climate. Here in Massachusetts, the climate is already changing rapidly, with warmer winters and rising sea levels. These changes are having serious impacts on our wildlife, vegetation and forests, and streams and rivers.
To protect natural resources, we’re working on a number of projects with partners from nonprofit organizations, federal, state, and local government, and other universities. For example:
- We're bringing together practitioners to better connect rivers and streams that have been fragmented by roads. The improved connectivity promotes movement that allows fish and wildlife to track changes in water temperature and habitat and also helps critical road infrastructure withstand flooding from extreme storms.
- We’ve created a website that informs and inspires local action in response to the impacts of climate change by providing information on climate science, species vulnerability, and adaptation actions that can be taken now.
The survival of our ecosystems isn’t just important to the flora and fauna—it’s important to you! Join us during #UMassGives to support ongoing research and projects to conserve our natural resources and adapt to climate change. Your gift will be an investment in the future.
Help us win the 3:00-4:00 pm Power Hour on April 28th! The fund with the most donations during that hour will receive a $2,000 bonus. (Donations must be unique: only one gift per donor allowed.)
