Support the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences!

Today is UMassGives! This is a powerful opportunity for our community to come together and invest in the future of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). Last year, more than 735 generous donors helped us raise over $426,000 in support of SBS students, faculty, and programs. That collective generosity made a tangible difference: expanding access for students from underserved backgrounds, strengthening the SBS in DC internship program, advancing senior completion initiatives, and fueling the innovative work of our faculty.

In 2026, we aim to build on that momentum and your support will help us get there.

Gifts to the SBS Dean’s Priority Fund provide flexible, immediate resources that allow the college to respond to emerging opportunities and student needs. From supporting undergraduate research through the UMass Poll to enabling internships across Boston, New England, and around the world, this fund helps ensure that SBS students gain the real-world experiences they need to succeed. During UMassGives, donations to the Dean’s Priority Fund will go even further thanks to a special matching challenge by Ryan Benharris ’01, who will donate $1,000 once 15 gifts to the fund are received.

You can also invest in the Faculty Excellence Fund, which supports the recruitment, retention, and development of outstanding faculty whose teaching and research shape the SBS experience. Your support of the SBS Faculty Excellence Fund helps the college recruit, retain, and propel outstanding faculty whose teaching, research, and public engagement define the SBS experience. This flexible funding provides critical seed support that removes barriers to innovation, fuels groundbreaking scholarship, and strengthens student learning across the social and behavioral sciences. When 15 gifts of any size are made to this fund, anonymous donors will contribute an additional $150,000 to advance faculty excellence at SBS.

Together, these funds as well as all the department funds we have here at SBS play a critical role in preparing graduates to lead in the public and private sectors, fostering informed social change, and strengthening communities locally and globally.

However you choose to give during UMassGives, your support has a direct and lasting impact on our students and faculty. Thank you for being part of the SBS community and for helping us shape the leaders, thinkers, and changemakers of tomorrow.
