Support the William E. Heronemus Graduate Fellowship Fund to help UMass Amherst Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) graduate students break new ground in renewable energy research at the Wind Energy Center!
This scholarship has provided tens of thousands of dollars to deserving UMass Amherst students since its inception. We hope to offer more generous fellowships and we have a goal to increase the scholarship amount each year.
In memory of William E. Heronemus, the late U.S. Navy captain known as “the father of wind energy” and a professor in what are now the Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Departments, an endowment fund was established at the UMass Amherst College of Engineering. For more than 13 years, this fund has supported MIE graduate students who have a passion for renewable energy. Thanks to the generosity of the Heronemus family, alumni and other donors, scholarship recipients have been breaking new ground in wind and renewable energy research during their studies with the Wind Energy Center.
The University of Massachusetts Wind Energy Center is a leading institution in wind energy engineering nationally and internationally. Since 1972 the Center has worked diligently to maintain and enhance its important wind energy education programs and research activities.
