Energy Transition Institute

Support the Energy Transition Institute (ETI) at UMass Amherst as we work to create an energy system that is sustainable and equitable. The transition to a low carbon energy system presents a massive challenge – technological, social, political; but it also presents an unprecedented opportunity to build an energy system that is not just cleaner but is more equitable and just.

Our mission is to enable a fast and fair transition to a decarbonized energy system in the United States, by bringing researchers across campus together with marginalized communities, industry, and policymakers. We are innovating at the intersection of energy technology and social equity. Faculty, students, and external partners are very excited about our work to build a cleaner and more just energy system. But this goes way beyond what we can do here alone. A vision like this takes a village, in fact, it will take the whole nation coming together. We need your help and would love to find ways for everyone to get engaged.

We need:

-Scholarships and fellowships for our diverse students.

-An endowment for our Institute, to maintain a lasting commitment to the communities we work with, and particularly to recruit and retain diverse staff to be part of our work.

We would love:

-An industry affiliate program – we are looking for a few organizations to help us design a program that brings together academic and industry experts in a way that benefits firms, students, and society.

We are looking for:

-Graduate students for our ELEVATE program, as well as students interested in the Masters in sustainability science, MS3

-Undergrads (at UMass, the 5 colleges, or beyond), who are passionate about energy equity, from all fields – contact us and see how you can get involved

If you want to engage with us, or talk about opportunities, please reach out to us.
