Why support UMass Journalism during this two-day campaign?

Journalism is growing!

Our department, as well as the journalism industry, is growing and has expanded opportunities for current and future students. We are excited to offer opportunities that will give students access to numerous career-focused classes, events, workshops, and invaluable hands-on experiences. With your help, a new generation of students can learn to elevate and sharpen their skills to make journalism more equitable and just for the future of democracy.

As we continue to grow, we focus on providing a space for student journalists to refine their craft and use their voices for reporting and storytelling. Your support will help build a new studio and fund field reporting equipment upgrades such as professional video camera kits, digital audio recorders, and digital cameras for photography. Investing in these resources will provide an opportunity for students to learn how to make their own radio shows and podcasts, how to talk on-air, and how to program shows. Your gift will also provide students with annual scholarships and stipends for unpaid internships, giving them the financial freedom to pursue their passions for editing, producing, programming, reporting, writing, photography, and design.

Journalism is important to our democratic society. By giving, you can help us grow experiential learning opportunities that will better equip our students with the tools they need to succeed. Your gift will allow us to continue providing our students with the technical skills that are vital to preparing them for a tough job market.
