The University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band is a point of pride for our campus and for our State. At approximately 350 members, the Power and Class of New England is the largest collegiate marching band in the Northeast. Our band has performed at 3 U.S. Presidential inaugurations, the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the 2018 Tournament of Roses. This is in addition to every UMass home football games, select away games, and various appearances throughout the region. In 1998, the Minuteman Marching Band received the Sudler Trophy, recognized as one of America’s great collegiate marching bands.
In order for the Minuteman Marching Band to perform at a high level, we need quality instruments on which to play. Not every student owns their own instrument. We never want a lack of a personal instrument to keep someone from participating. Many sections only use school-owned instruments, such as percussion, tubas, mellophones, and euphoniums. These instruments have a limited lifespan and many need replacing. Groups such as the Hoop/Ice Band and the Concert Band have need of specialized instruments that students typically don’t own themselves, such as baritone saxophones, bass clarinets, and bassoons. Your gift as part of UMassGives helps the Minuteman Marching Band provide a high-quality instrument for any student who needs it. It helps keep the Power and Class of New England sounding its best!
