UNIVERSITY WITHOUT WALLS
We here at the UMass Amherst University Without Walls (UWW) have been helping non-traditional age students earn their bachelor’s degrees since 1971.
Every semester, UWW receives dozens of scholarship applications from students in need- single parents, domestic violence survivors; students experiencing job loss, medical crises, and other financial burdens. The need is great; the resources insufficient.
This is where you come in. During #UMassGives we are asking you to support our new scholarship, the Rute Avelar Scholarship. Established by a friend of UWW in honor of his niece who died at age 15, this scholarship is for UWW students with concentrations in the human services, psychology and mental health care, who are dedicating their lives to people in crisis.
Last year during #UMassGives we raised over $13,000 towards our scholarship fund. This year, with your help, we can work towards endowing a scholarship for students who are dedicating their lives to helping those in need in our communities.
Our goal is to raise $10,000, and with your help we know we can do it!
We cannot thank you enough for your support. Your gift will make a real difference in the lives of adult students.
With Friendship and Appreciation,
Faculty and Staff of the University Without Walls
