Support Our Tradition of Strong Student Mentoring and Innovative Research
The Department of Communication is a vibrant, intellectual community. Through your support, our undergraduate and graduate students can continue to benefit from opportunities that prepare them for future and spur critical thinking, like guest lectures, student/alumni networking opportunities, and professional development.
Education Beyond the Classroom
“The major provides students with exactly the sort of analytical and critical thinking skills that are demanded in the world today, alongside a curriculum designed to advance their skills in writing, speaking, researching, and engaging in creative expression,” says Professor Erica Scharrer.
Our students experience many different aspects of Communication as a practical component of their academic career. We provide hands-on production experience to meet the needs of our students through course work on technical aspects of production from advertising to films, and with facilities like our film production studio, and the vast library of tools in our Communications and Journalism Equipment library. Beyond this, our majors have a variety of extracurricular opportunities to learn in the field.
“Donations to UMassGives are exceptionally important for our students. They provide opportunities for students’ pursuit of internships, their interactions with our vast alumni network, their participation in community-building and extra-curricular events in the department, and much more,” adds Scharrer.
Knowledge Generation by Our Faculty
Our world-renowned and award-winning faculty continue to do ground-breaking research, and knowledge generation and discovery, which leads to great experiences for our students in the classroom. Communication faculty are international authors whose work regularly appears in virtually every major North American journal in the field, as well as dozens of international journals.
Here’s what one of our faculty has to say about the importance of your support:
There’s no better way to show your appreciation for your degree than by providing support for future Communication students.
