UMass Out in Stem (oSTEM) is part of a national organization dedicated to providing resources, networking, and professional development to undergraduates who identify as LGBTQ+ within the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields. On the UMass campus, our chapter organizes a plethora of activities concerning academia, professional development, community building, and recreation. Examples include resume workshops, out faculty and out professional panels, movie nights, pride marches, escape rooms, and nitrogen ice cream.
Alongside these community functions, we also participate in the oSTEM national conference. This annual conference is an excellent networking, growing, and career development experience; however, it is also one of our biggest expenses. Therefore, we are concentrating our donations from #UMassGives towards conference expenses. Our goal is to send as many students as possible without putting a financial strain on any individuals within our group.
