The Asian & Asian American Studies Certificate (AAASCP) is an interdisciplinary program that consists of 8 courses that exposes students to two interrelated but unique sets of histories, experiences, and modern issues -- Asia and Asian America.
In taking courses in different departments on campus that relate to either Asian Studies or Asian American Studies, the Certificate gives students (1) an understanding of different racial/ethnic groups & international issues and (2) interdisciplinary and multi-method research and learning skills.
This knowledge and set of skills will help them to more effectively navigate and thrive in the increasingly diverse and interconnected U.S. society and world of the 21st century. The AAASCP is preparing to celebrate its 20th anniversary at UMass Amherst and is raising money to conduct a one-and-a-half day symposium that will bring together former Certificate students, current students, faculty, staff, community members, and distinguished guests to celebrate, renew ties, and reflect on ongoing issues and challenges as we continue to move forward. We hope that you will be part of this effort to make sure that the AAASCP remains strong, vibrant, and active!
