Mission Statement:
- The Militia is an organization that aims to bring together students who share a common interest in the UMass Intercollegiate Athletics teams. The focus of the organization is to develop and promote student engagement with the athletic teams and events and to promote a positive and welcoming atmosphere for students at athletic events. The Militia serves as the official student section of UMass Athletics.
Key Club Achievements:
- Club membership increased by 160% from last year
- The Militia saw its highest single-game attendance vs Quinnipiac on December 8, 2018, when the student section sold out for the first time in club history.
- The Militia took its largest road trip in club history to the TD Garden in Boston for the 2019 Hockey East Semifinal game vs Boston College. We organized 4 school buses full of roughly 200 passionate students.
- We conducted player interviews with UMass Hockey's Cale Makar, Mario Ferraro, Matt Murray, and John Leonard as well as UMass Basketball's Luwane Pipkins and UMass Football's Andy Isabella.
- The Militia debuted its new app called the Militia Student Rewards App at the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester. The app is used to earn points towards prizes by attending various UMass athletic events.
Fatheads:
- A key component of The Militia is our use of Fatheads during various athletic events. The Fatheads increase fan engagement as well as enhance our club's brand among the student body. A few examples of Fatheads we have include a Carvel Cake, Walt Bell, Prison Mike, and Tom Brady with a Goat's head.
What we are raising money for:
- This year we are raising money so our club can offer our members once in a lifetime road trip experiences, such as the one to the TD Garden that we executed this past March.
