The UMass Minuteman Marching Band has a longstanding tradition in the UMass Amherst community, going all the way back to our founding in 1873. Under the leadership of director Timothy Todd Anderson, associate director and percussion instructor Thomas P. Hannum, and assistant director and visual coordinator Christine Sirard, the band has continued that legacy through energy, enthusiasm, and excellence.
This year, we are establishing a scholarship in recognition of Thom Hannum's 40 years at UMass, which will be awarded to percussion students of exceptional ability. Please help us to show our great respect and admiration for Professor Hannum and his work over the past four decades in making the UMass Drumline like none other.
There are two ways YOU can have an impact on UMass Gives:
If you have already made a gift to the UMMB this year, THANK YOU. Please consider making a gift above and beyond your annual gift that supports our band and reach out to your friends, ask them to help us create the new Thom Hannum Scholarship! Be creative and have fun. For example, since it's Thom's 40th season, donate $40. Fans of the "1812 Overture" could make an $18.12 gift. Fans of Chicago could donate $25.64. Or band alumni who really miss rehearsals could give $440.
