Located in the basement of McNamara Hall in the Sylvan Residential Area, the Sylvan Snack Bar has been the spot for evening and late-night dining (serving quesadillas, calzones, subs, frappes, and more) for UMass students since 1971, making it the oldest student-run business on campus! We are a non-profit, entirely student-run, cooperative food business.
Last year, our services were limited by outdated kitchen equipment. Thanks to our wonderful community of supporters and donors, we were able to purchase new equipment and have seen marked improvements not only with our efficiency in the kitchen but also in regard to customer satisfaction. Still, we are always looking for ways to improve upon our operations and provide the UMass community with the highest quality service possible. In addition to more modern appliances, we aim to direct a portion of these funds toward decorating the Sylvan Snack Bar. It’s come a long way from being a student luggage closet in the 60s, but we want to make the space even better! With your help, we hope to strengthen our customer base and provide better, faster service for all of UMass.
The Sylvan Snack Bar has been a cornerstone of the UMass community for the past fifty-one years, and we intend to continue the amazing legacy that we’ve inherited. We hope to continually provide a better experience for our customers as the years go on, and we greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide!
