UMass Surf Club strives to provide a community of surfing and surf culture to the students of UMass through swell trips and events, uniting experienced surfers, and teaching beginners. We hold days trips, competitions, movie nights on and off-campus in order to spread the stoke of surfing to the UMass community.
Part of building a surfing community at UMass is the ability to take trips to the “local” beaches two hours away and renting boards to teach new surfers. Money raised from UMass Gives would help offset the price of those trips and give us the ability to make surfing more accessible to everyone on campus. Currently, we don’t have any club-specific boards so members have to rely on their own equipment or schedule trips around the possibility of renting boards. Money raised would be a huge help in buying a few boards that would be used to teach beginner members and allow for the club to be a lot more economically accessible.
The culture around surfing is not just about sharing the stoke but we also have a large appreciation for the environment. If our beaches aren’t clean and healthy there is no surfing. UMass Surf Club aims to bring that appreciation for the environment to all our members and the community. We have organized beach clean-ups at the beaches we frequent to give back to the environment and make it so our club and other surfers will have places to surf for many years. Part of the money raised will go towards organizing more beach clean-ups and other projects to raise awareness of how we impact our environment.
Your donations will help the UMass Surf Club share the stoke and create a lively surf community even all the way out in Western Mass!
