"Building the show with my fellow students, knowing that it was fully student-run and extremely successful.”
"INCREDIBLE student work”
"Seeing the reaction to my play. It felt amazing to see that work I had written had impacted people's lives.”
These are just some of the things students have told us they love about doing Fringe.
Our Fringe Fest is inspired by the famous festival in Edinburgh, which offers up a wildly varied collection of hundreds of events that celebrates the rich variety of theater making.
Our festival, meanwhile, celebrates our students’ creativity. Every year, they put together compelling independent student productions, handling everything from casting to set building to publicity. This year’s offerings will include a steampunk opera, two original plays, an immersive alternate-reality game, a digital art exhibit, and more!
As the quotes above show, students who participated in 2022 came out of the experience feeling energized and confident about their skills, gained valuable experience in all areas of the business, and felt supported as part of a community of theater-makers. Many are returning for a second Fringe experience this year!
Fringe events are free to patrons — but not to the department. We support our students with mentorship from faculty and staff and access to materials and tools in all of our shops. We bring in guest artists and staff; sometimes, we purchase new equipment and goods to support student events.
Can you help with a gift to keep the Fringe going?
Thank you!
