It’s springtime, and even as we celebrate new growth, we still need our umbrellas.
At the beginning of this school year, we asked you, our friends and family, to be our umbrellas, to support us as we dipped into our rainy-day funds to fulfill our commitment to create and teach theater amid the previously unimagined obstacles of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You came through with financial support and a warm welcome for our wonderful theatrical experiments, events, and speakers. We’ve explored using technology to create new, more accessible forms of theater safely. We’ve done important work to begin to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice.
Now, we’re going big to end the school year, and we’re coming to you for these two days of UMassGives because we need your support again.
From April 22 to May 2, we’re putting on a Rights of Spring Festival (www.rightsofspringumass.com). We’re so excited to celebrate the creativity of our students, faculty, and staff with a rich slate of events that includes online and (COVID-safe) in-person outdoor theater, podcasts, virtual exhibits, and more. Both in form and in content, the pieces being presented reflect the new directions that have come out of the unusual and challenging circumstances of the past year.
If you can support us during this UMass Gives campaign, you will help us fund this celebration of our spring of creative rebirth, and ensure that we are able to carry what we’ve learned into the future, from mastering the unique technical demands of virtual theater to our on-going work to create an inclusive theater practice.
Please consider a gift to the Department of Theater during UMassGives.
Thank you!
