What Is BDIC?
Founded in 1970, the Bachelor's Degree with Individual Concentration is the only major at UMass Amherst which allows students to create their own interdisciplinary degree. Our students are resourceful, broad-minded, and entrepreneurial. Our department is a testing ground for new ideas and has been responsible for incubating various popular emergent degrees and departments at the university including Women's Studies, Legal Studies, STPEC, Computer Science, Public Health, Sustainable Foods, and Farming, and Informatics. Now more than ever, there is a need for those who can use their talent, vision, and ingenuity to build bridges, and BDIC is the home for those students at UMass.
