Department of Journalism

Why support UMass Journalism during this two-day campaign?

Journalism is growing.

Our department, as well as the journalism industry, is growing and has expanded opportunities for current and future students. As we continue to grow, we are excited to offer the opportunities that will give students access to numerous career-focused classes, events, and workshops. For example, this year, we organized a panel discussion called Opening Doors: Internships to Job, in which nearly 100 students registered to attend. The event featured five journalism alumni who talked about their current jobs and the internships that helped get them there.

As we continue to grow, we focus on providing a space for student journalists to refine their craft. With your help, we can build a new radio studio as well as invest in equipment upgrades. Your gift will help support the purchase of new equipment such as professional video camera kits, digital audio recorders, and digital cameras for photography in the field. Investing in these resources will provide an opportunity for students to learn how to make their own radio shows and podcasts, how to talk on-air, and how to program a show.

Journalism is so important. By giving, you can help us grow experiential learning opportunities that will better equip our students with the tools they need to succeed and allow us to continue providing our students with invaluable experiences and the technical skills that are vital to preparing them for a tough job market.

If you support us during #UMassGives, you impact the students working hard to advance their careers as well-rounded and skilled journalists.

Thank you!
