UMassGives 2021

After a year of social distancing, indoor activities, and balling on a budget, we are psyched to be looking forward to the anticipated in-person '21 - '22 school year and our 100th Birthday as UMass Outing Club! As we approach our centennial in the spring of 2022, we are proud that we have held true to our core values while continuing to grow and to allow change within our club. This past year we have taken the time to reflect on who we are as a club, who we serve in the community, how we give back to our members, and how we could improve our equity and inclusion. 

Due to covid-19 Student Government Association budget constraints, we have had to get creative with our very small budget to continue to provide safe, effective, and accessible gear rentals. We have felt the blow in cuts to the salaries of our student employees, putting cabin maintenance on hold, and forgoing purchases that we would really benefit from (i.e. hiking boots and climbing shoes that fit a variety of sizes). As we look towards the future and plan for necessary cabin upgrades, gear improvements, and staff costs, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! This year our goal is to raise $5,000 as a club, and for every $25 dollars we raise dedicated UMOC members and alumni will contribute 1 hour of community service to an outdoor organization of their choice! As a club that depends so much on our community and environment for adventures, it is important to us that we continue to show our appreciation and give back to those who have helped us so much. 

We will also be holding another SuPer DooPer MeGA PoWeR HOUR!!!! From 8-9pm on April 30th, every unique donation will count towards a potential $2,000 power hour bonus, on top of a $1,000 RSO bonus!!! Three thousand dollars. Thirty times one hundred dollars. And you heard it right folks, extra money at no extra cost! This means that a simple donation of $5 could count towards winning us an added $3,000. That could get us over 20 new sleeping bags, a fleet of 33 pairs of hiking boots, or even 8 complete sets of avalanche beacon equipment!!! U = Undeniably one of the best RSOs on campus, UMOC is a completely student-run organization that traditionally brought over 600 students into the outdoors on 15+ trips a week. Where friends are made, stories are shared, and people gain confidence and skills to last them a lifetime. This is what dreams are made of!

M = Many students that would not otherwise have access to the outdoors can get the tools, skills, and guidance from other student leaders at little to no cost. 

O = Officially created in 1922, UMOC is going on its 100th birthday this year, and will continue to be here for much longer! 

C = Committed to our motto "We take people outside and do stuff with them", we value our community, our culture, and of course -- the outdoors.
