At the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences, supporting student success through experiential learning opportunities is a priority. Known as "high-impact practices"—which can include project-based learning, or community-based learning—these courses and programs have several features in common. They promote active engagement. They involve collaboration, both in and out of classroom settings. Research has linked high-impact practices to greater gains in learning and retention compared to traditional instruction. High-impact practices can also help students develop skills that are essential in career settings.
That is why we are creating the Dr. Daniel Gerber Experiential Learning Opportunities Fund! This school-wide fund will support students who have an interest in taking the information they learn in the classroom and put it into practice in their practicum and internships so they can continue to develop the skills they need to be successful in their careers.
Please join us during UMass Gives to help lay the foundation of this incredible fund as we honor long-time faculty member and mentor Dan Gerber. Dan has meant so much to so many of our students and this is our opportunity to thank him and continuing supporting our students just as Dan has done.
