Jazz in July, developed over 40 years ago by luminaries Max Roach, Dr. Billy Taylor, Sheila Jordan, and Dr. Frederick Tillis, is a nationally recognized vocal and instrumental jazz education program. Located right here at UMass Amherst, the program offers a concentrated course of study to musicians of all ages, rooted in the traditions of jazz and improvisation. Jazz in July is an integral part of the Fine Arts Center’s legacy of presenting, teaching, and celebrating jazz at UMass Amherst and in Western Massachusetts.
Jazz in July Summer Music Programs have become a career launchpad for many prominent jazz artists, including Camille Thurman, Christian Sands, Makaya McCraven, and more. Many talented, aspiring jazz musicians can only participate in this transformative program with the help of scholarships. Please consider making a gift to the Jazz in July scholarship fund during UMassGives and create access for more students to learn from the best and explore their artistic potential. Thank you!
