Six years ago, SBS launched the SBS in DC program, which supports distinguished undergraduates from all SBS majors in undertaking life-changing internships in our nation's capital." This signature program incorporates alumni mentorship, tremendous networking opportunities, and a summer internship reflection course, all while conducting their career building internship. Since that time, the program has successfully launched dozens of students into careers in government, finance, journalism, law, and other disciplines that rely on mastery of the professional environment of Washington DC. However, each cohort of this amazing program could only accommodate 1 in 6 students who were qualified to enroll.
Now, it is time to scale the program up. But we need your help.
Transitioning to an in-semester model will minimize the cost for students and allow us to scale the program from 10 participants annually to around 50. However, it requires investment of time and resources to support this ambitious expansion.
This highly successful and selective SBS in DC Program was built through donor support. To meet our new and very ambitious goal, your support is crucial.
The SBS in DC program consistently supports the best and brightest students who would otherwise not have access to this kind of opportunity and supports them in launching careers. Across the spectrum, we see empowered graduates who will become tomorrow’s leaders in the public sphere.
How Can You Help?
Economic support is key to the program’s success at every level – from one-time gifts to pledges of any size. Our Dean has set a goal of raising $150,000 by June 2024 to support the program’s transition.
We need your help to boost our operations budget, increase recruitment and support staff and permit our students to participate regardless of their personal financial situation.
The SBS in DC program is successful because it leverages the UMass Amherst network to provide mentorships, internships and more. Want to help? Let us know and we’ll find the opportunity for you to contribute.
We thank you for your consideration in support of this mission.
An exciting challenge for UMassGives 2024! The first 10 gifts of any size to SBS in DC will unlock a $1,000 gift from SBS in DC alumnus Alfonso Hidalgo '18!
