Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL)

Support Community Engagement!

Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL) offers courses and programs that engage with communities in collective learning and work for a more just world.

This semester, students in CESL programs—including The Boltwood Project, Community Scholars Program (CSP), IMPACT, Mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Civic Engagement and Public Service Certificate—are partnering with communities to:

Offer community sessions with Right Care Alliance on strategies to protect patients from unnecessary health care costs and debt.
Lead community painting workshops to encourage social support and contribute to a mural with the Amherst Survival Center.
Create an electronics repair collective with the UMass Mutual Aid Project and the UMass Amherst Maker Space to interrupt the technology waste stream and educate about planned obsolescence.

These are just a few examples of CESL students’ commitment to joining with others to build just communities.

Your gift of any size is needed to support student transportation to local community partners in addition to community-engaged projects and summer internships. It makes a big difference.
