Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was founded on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven sophisticated women of color. The sorority is a historically black organization that was founded on the principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service, dedicated to improving the quality of life for women and their communities on a national and global scale. Our goal as an organization is to achieve greater progress in education, leadership development and health awareness. As the ‘Oh So Fly’ Pi Xi chapter chartered at UMASS Amherst on May 29, 2004, we strive to bring all those ideals into fruition right here on campus, by creating programs and hosting events that benefit the campus and surrounding communities. We are on a mission to bring the power and presence of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. back on campus to empower the masses in culture, tradition, and service.
