Disability Services

The mission of UMass Disability Services is to provide equitable access to quality higher education and campus life through reasonable accommodations, using an interactive process. We promote self-advocacy and connect students to resources as they navigate their college experience.

Our staff is committed to providing members of the University community with the finest educational opportunities and the most appropriate accommodations available for students with disabilities.

Disability Community Space The Disability Community Space aims to provide support, resources, and disability-focused activities and events to the UMass community and beyond. Through events that help educate, engage, and develop connections, the Disability Community Space welcomes all students, staff, and faculty to partake in these disability-related initiatives.

UMass Inclusive Learning (UIL)

At UMass Inclusive Learning (UIL), we believe that everyone should have access to higher education.  Our mission is to improve access for learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Students with I/DD have traditionally been left out of higher education due to barriers in primary and secondary education environments. Our two programs, MAICEI and DRIVEE, work to create an accessible college experience for disabled students where they leave with the academic, employment, and social skills needed to succeed in today’s world.

UIL develops skills in self-confidence and community building. Students gain fulfilling friendships and become an advocate for both themselves and their peers. We are proud to be part of UMass Amherst’s goal to increase inclusivity on campus as a program that builds a better future for disabled students in higher education.
