The University of Massachusetts Amherst Mock Trial Team is organized to promote knowledge of the law, foster excellence in speech and persuasion, and help develop logical thinking skills. Our purpose is to open the doors to students interested in the legal spectrum while creating a close community within the larger UMass campus—known amongst team members as the Mock Trial Family. UMass Mock Trial competes in the American Mock Trial Association as an intercollegiate team competing in strategy and performance-based legal education tournaments at the local, regional, and national level. Over the past few years, UMass Mock Trial has become one of the country's most competitive mock trial teams. This year, we nearly qualified for the National Championship Tournament, and this team has had more individual award winners than any previous year. While we have been able to maintain having 3 competitive teams competing in the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), the team has been able to create a welcoming community for our members, which can be seen in our strong retention of members between years. We meet twice weekly for practice, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and have worked this year to structure practices to not only work on specific Mock Trial skills, but also to improve the legal knowledge and public speaking skills of members. We continue to improve as the years go on, bringing more travel for competition and higher levels of competitiveness. It feels important to note that the UMass Mock Trial team is incredibly thankful that we can receive funding from the University to continue to represent UMass on an intercollegiate level. However, it does fall short at times when necessary to bring us to the next level. That is why we are participating in UMassGives! We hope you consider donating to continue running this excellent program.
Consider making your gift during the 6-7 pm Power Hour on April 29, when the area of campus with the most individual donations will will an additional $2000!
