The Department of Political Science is committed to advancing knowledge and fostering critical thinking about the pressing issues of our time. Our vibrant community of scholars and students study political life in the varied contexts it occurs—institutions, social movements, power relations, elections, political culture, and war. Our academic programs emphasize issues central to public life such as democracy, citizenship and participation, inequality, global forces, institutions, and governance. We aim to help educate a reflective and active citizenry capable of sharing power and responsibility in a contemporary democracy.
