In spring 2021, our department launched an innovative course titled “Women in Sport Business” aimed at providing students with a case study–based exploration of the experiences and opportunities for women in the sport and entertainment industry. The course, which was inspired and funded by Karina Herold ’08 MS, Zaileen Janmohamed ’05 MS, Karen Peters ’95 MS, and Gloria E. Nevarez ’93, is one-of-a-kind within the sport management discipline and is offered to both upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. The course was the first step in what is a broader department mission and initiative to position our program as the leader in the personal and professional development of women in the sport and entertainment industry. Your gift to the Women in Sport Business Fund will support:
- Class field trips and experiential team-building outings, as well as a
departmental presence at appropriate conferences and events (Women Leaders
in College Sports, SBJ’s Game Changers event, ESPNW Summit) - Development of digital and social media campaigns to promote our leadership
in this area - Development and implementation of a Case Study Competition designed for
high school girls, and culminating with presentations made at our summer
retreat; an annual on-campus workshop and networking event for 20-30 young
women professionals in sport and entertainment
